Spring Training Salt River Fields SignNot to brag, but we enjoy some amazing spring weather here in Phoenix. As infamous as our summer temperatures are, spring is an underrated time to live, work, and play in the Sonoran Desert. Which is why, after a long week of working hard for our clients, the 5 Fold team decided to take an afternoon to watch some spring training baseball in one of the city’s most beautiful outdoor stadiums.

Taking in the game

Salt River Fields is located in Scottsdale, and it’s a breathtaking venue. This open-air stadium felt breezy and comfortable, and from our spot on the lawn, we could see Camelback Mountain in the distance. It’s very different from the Diamondbacks’ in-season home at Chase Field in downtown Phoenix—which we also love. Salt River Fields made us feel closer to the game.

Spring training games in Arizona are casual events. Our team brought blankets and we sat on the grass, past the outfield. The shade of a palo verde kept the sun out of our eyes, and a nice breeze cooled the air.

Oh, and eating. After all, what’s a baseball game without a hot dog and some popcorn? Also, we might have had some ice cream after the seventh-inning stretch.

What is spring training?

Currently, 15 Major League Baseball (MLB) teams hold their spring training in Arizona as part of the Cactus League. It’s been a tradition since 1947, and scores of diehard baseball fans flock to Phoenix every spring to watch their teams in this special, close-knit setting. With ten stadiums spread across the metropolitan area, baseball tourists often attend as many games as possible, visiting stadium after stadium here in the Valley of the Sun.
